Oulton Broad is an expanse of water and marsh, which forms part of the network of man-made bodies of water known as The Broads. It is haunted by the ghost of a ship known as a wherry (a type of boat that was traditionally used for carrying cargo or passengers on rivers and canals in England). The Mayfly set sail for Yarmouth containing £4000 and an attractive young female passenger. Unfortunately, the skipper decided that he wanted both for himself so set the ship on course for foreign shores. Tragically, his actions led to the loss of the ship and the death of all on board with the exception of his cabin boy.
